If the European Super League project was relaunched this week, the organizers of this major continental competition have not given themselves any date for the launch. The competition will not see the light of day next summer, that’s for sure.
Who will be the 64 participants of the European Super League? The project relaunched by Florentino Pérez and Joan Laporta, after a decision by the Court of Justice of the European Union on Thursday, is struggling to convince. At least, the vast majority of major European clubs refused to join the competition. The organizers (A22 Sports Management) have no plans to launch the ESL next summer anyway.
As a Cope journalist indicates, the Superleague hopes to launch for the 2025-2026 season or after, with no date set for the big upheaval. Enough to allow promising players to present their financial guarantees, namely 15 billion euros over three seasons donated by European and American investors. And this, even though the ESL has promised to be broadcast for free via its application.
Two and a half years after the scandal of the announcement of a Super League, creating quite a revolt in England and Spain, the format has been revised and is no longer exactly a closed league. The 64 teams will be divided into three divisions (Star League, Gold and Blue), the bottom two of the first two divisions will be relegated and the 10 lowest in D3 will be replaced each year. If, of course, this ESL sees the light of day…
