A former Manchester United top scorer has demanded that Erik Ten Hag be removed from his role as soon as possible.
Manchester United are eliminated from all European competition after their Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening. With only five points collected and a last place in their group, the English club even signed the worst campaign in its history in this prestigious competition.
“Ten Hag?” We have to ask ourselves questions”
Since Tuesday evening, voices have continued to be raised demanding that Erik Ten Hag be fired. Dwight Yorke, who won the treble in 1999, is one of those who believe the manager’s credit is now completely exhausted.
During an intervention on BBC Sport, the former Trinidad and Tobago striker declared: “I want to give the manager the benefit of the doubt. And I think it’s fair to say that based on what he did last season, he earned some time. But, on the other hand, I think as a manager some of the things he did are questionable. We must therefore give him until the end of the season to see if he can turn things around. There are question marks that still need to be answered in my opinion.”
While questioning Ten Hag’s work, Yorke stressed that United’s first-team players are not free from blame. “This year the team didn’t really materialize (like) I thought it would. Part of the coach’s philosophy is to improve the players and the team. I think the players he recruited didn’t make things happen.”
