Ludovic Giuly left his position in the Lyon technical staff because he did not master the language of Shakespeare enough.
After trying his hand at the role of consultant in the media, Ludovic Giuly returned to the world of football. In June 2022, he joined his training club OL as assistant to Peter Bosz. The experience didn’t last too long, however. And not just because of the dismissal of the Dutch coach.
Giuly in embarrassment in the canteen
Giuly left just a year after arriving. Why ? Because he was not sufficiently in tune with the current leaders of the club. Working under John Textor and all his disciples took a toll on him. Mainly because of the language barrier.
The former French international (17 caps) confided in his great friend Pascal Olmeta about the reason which led him to throw in the towel. “I left OL because in the offices, in the canteen, if you don’t speak English, you’re dead.” Since then, the former Monegasque has been twiddling his thumbs while waiting for a new challenge.
As a player, Giuly had traveled to foreign championships. He played in Spain (Barcelona) and Italy (Rome), which allowed him to learn both languages. On the other hand, he did not have the chance to perform in the Premier League. Hence his very limited mastery of English.
