Injured in the knee, Thibaut Courtois does not intend to play in Euro 2024 at the end of the season. The Real Madrid goalkeeper would like to concentrate on his club.

Will Belgium have to do without Thibaut Courtois for Euro 2024? It’s the trend, especially if we are to believe Marca and journalist Roberto Gomez. He assures that the Real Madrid goalkeeper has warned his club that he will not join the Red Devils at the end of the season for what could be one of the last chances for this golden generation to win a big trophy.

Seriously injured in his knee since August, Courtois could return to the field since May. But the last bulwark of Madrid would prefer to skip the Euro this summer to concentrate on its return to the best possible level, in order to favor Real.

This information comes in the context of tense relations between Courtois and the new Belgian coach, Domenico Tedesco. The 31-year-old goalkeeper did not appreciate seeing Romelu Lukaku regain the captain’s armband for the match against Austria last June. Courtois had excused an injury to miss the trip following, and he was therefore withdrawn from the last rallies, which did not allow the two men to resolve their dispute.

The absence of Courtois (100 caps) would be a big blow for Belgium. Koen Casteels (Wolfsburg) inherited the starting place, while Matz Sels (Strasbourg) played the matches in October. Belgium was placed in a group E largely within its reach for the Euro, with Slovakia, Romania and a play-off. The Red Devils could face the French team in the quarter-finals if both teams finish at the top of their group and progress through the round of 16.
