Spanish coach Julen Lopetengui declined an offer from Al-Ittihad and the staggering salary that went with it.
Details of Al-Ittihad’s offer to Julen Lopetegui have leaked to the media. And they have enough to cause a lot of ink to flow.
Lopetegui turned his back on a big jackpot
Before recruiting Marcelo Gallardo, Al-Ittihad had suffered the refusal of the former Real Madrid coach, Lopetegui. The latter still wishes to continue his career in England, following his mixed experience with Wolves.
According to Sport, Lopetegui rejected an offer of 18 million euros per year net from Al-Ittihad to join Saudi Arabia. He informed the SPL management that he wanted to continue his career in England.
If he had accepted this challenge, the Iberian technician would have become the highest paid coach on the planet, dethroning his former opponent in La Liga, the Argentinian Diego Simeone.
