In France, TV rights have often been a source of discord among professional football authorities and television channels. A few years ago, Ligue 1 was sold for a billion euros to Mediapro. A record amount but which did not hold up when Téléfoot, Mediapro’s baby, finally experienced a painful defection a few months later.
Recognized as the most attractive championship in the world, the Premier League does not have all these problems. As proof, the television rights to the championship across the Channel were sold for 7.8 billion euros this Monday. A record amount, on which aligned Skysports and the TNT for live matches while the BBC will have match summaries available. This new agreement will be effective for the 2025-2029 tranche.
