Kylian Mbappé was not spared by a former emblematic Paris Saint-Germain player this week.
Already singled out after his matches in Newcastle (1-4) and Milan (1-2), Kylian Mbappé was again criticized this week following the draw conceded by Paris Saint-Germain against Newcastle, at the Parc des Princes (1-1). The 2018 world champion had a significant impact on the score by converting the equalizer penalty which allowed Paris to snatch a precious point, but his performance was otherwise judged insufficient.
Called to speak on Kylian Mbappé’s performance against the Magpies, Eric Rabesandratana was not kind to the Parisian top scorer. “ He is very, very far from what he should offer, thundered the former defender in comments given to L’Équipe. He is the strong man of this Paris-SG team and he does not have this status today in the Champions League. He is still decisive with his penalty: you have to score it, it’s not trivial. But he needs to be much more present and influential on the game than he has been so far in this competition.”
Mbappé does not give up
For his part, the main person concerned had also made comments reflecting a certain frustration, without exonerating himself. “ It’s frustrating. We dominate from start to finish. They have nothing. We knew it was their game. We have to finish our actions better. We had too much unfinished business for a Champions League match. It’s not the structure or the organization. We’re the players. We have to be much more diligent in front of goal. We have to kill in a nail-biting match like this. We had far too many clear opportunities not to do it. We should have won the match very easily “, Mbappé said on Canal +.
