Four days after being robbed of a victory by the referee against PSG in the Champions League (1-1), Newcastle reacted by winning at home on Saturday evening, against Manchester United (1- 0, 14th day of the Premier League).
Newcastle needed to turn the page as quickly as possible. Last Tuesday, Eddie Howe’s men were not varnished. Traveling on the pitch of Paris Saint-Germain, as part of the fifth day of the Champions League group stage, they conceded a draw in the final moments of the game following the more than generous penalty awarded by the VAR to the Parisians (1-1). Four days later, the Magpies were determined to return to success and that is what they did at home, against Manchester United (1-0, 14th day of PL).
The locals took advantage of the sad level displayed by the Red Devils during two-thirds of the match, a far cry from what they showed on Wednesday against Galatasaray, despite the draw conceded in Turkey (3-3). And it is therefore logical that Gordon scored for his team shortly before the hour mark (1-0, 56th).
