Despite France’s top seed status, the Blues are not safe from a group of death at Euro 2024. But the world vice-champions can also hope for a very favorable draw…
The French team negotiated the qualifiers for Euro 2024 perfectly. Despite a slight hitch to finish in Greece (2-2), a draw which cost them first place in the FIFA Ranking, the Blues flew over their subject and not only finished in first place in their group but are even among the best performing nations. Enough to earn them top seed status in the Euro draw which will take place this Saturday.
Thanks to its presence in pot 1, France has the assurance of not crossing paths with Germany, Belgium, Portugal, England and Spain during the group stage. However, as at Euro 2020, where it had to battle against Germany and Portugal, it can fear a group of all dangers. Essentially a consequence of the presence in pot 3 of the Netherlands and Croatia and in pot 4 of Italy and Switzerland, Denmark appearing as the most formidable opponent in pot 2.
The worst draw for the Blues: France, Denmark, Croatia (or Netherlands), Italy (or Switzerland)
However, the chances of seeing France inherit a group to its liking are much higher. Particularly because of a pot 2 that is hardly strong since we find Albania, Romania, Hungary and Austria. Pot 3 also welcomes Scotland or Slovenia, opponents worthy of the vice-world champions, and pot 4 will be completed this winter by the winners of the play-offs and that of group C (Georgia, Luxembourg, Greece or Kazakhstan ) could be the Tom Thumb of this Euro.
The best draw for the Blues: France, Albania, Slovenia and winner of the group C play-off.
