Losing on penalties is unfortunately a French tradition today. Without regard for the results which necessarily speak for him since he took office at the head of the Blues in 2012, Didier Deschamps has always fallen on a bone with this very specific exercise. If we imagined that the cruel defeat against Argentina in the World Cup final (3-3, 4-2 tab) would lead the Blues coach to give more importance to the preparation of penalties, he would not it’s nothing. In an interview given to bein Sportsthe Blues coach has stated his position: according to him, the context of training does not promote greater success in matches.

There is no one at training except you. You never manage to recreate the conditions of a match. If it’s a final, the emotional side, the public, the positioning of the shooters, nothing can be preparedinsists the native of Bayonne. Then between what you can predict and what happens, like the last session against Argentina where all the planned shooters were no longer on the field… Afterwards, if the best shooters shoot 1,2,3, 4, in training, why not? But I’m not convinced that it does much, but that’s just my opinion. This is why I don’t do specific sessions. At the end of the session, it could happen that the offensive players stay to shoot, but that’s it.”
