Trailing 3-0 on Benfica’s field, Inter Milan managed to come back to score a draw (3-3). In the other Group D match of the Champions League group stage, Real Sociedad also shared the points with RB Salzburg (0-0).

The spectacle was there on Wednesday evening at the Luz stadium in Lisbon. At the end of a lively meeting, with two very different acts, Benfica and Inter Milan parted back to back (3-3). A result which changes nothing in the ranking of Pool D of the Champions League group stage, Inter remaining second and Benfica dead last.

However, the Portuguese club did everything to try to achieve its first success in this European campaign after its four defeats in a row. And he thought he was heading straight for victory after Joao Mario’s clean and flawless hat-trick (5th, 13th and 34th). But that was without counting on the reaction force of the finalist of the last edition of the C1.

Final to come

It was Arnautovic who first sounded the revolt (3-1, 51st), imitated a few minutes later by Frattesi (3-2, 58th). And to equalize, it was the former OM, Sanchez, who scored from the penalty spot (3-3, 72nd). Enough to validate a spectacular draw, with serious consequences for Benfica who is eliminated from any European Cup.

Because at the same time, RB Salzburg also drew, on the Real Sociedad field (0-0). No goal, but a result which allows the Austrian club to secure third place in the group, synonymous with a ticket to the Europa League. As for Sociedad, it remains first ahead of Inter, on goal difference. The two teams will have the opportunity to decide between themselves on December 12, in a fight for the leadership position, crucial for the next round.
