Referee Tomasz Kwitklowski was sanctioned by UEFA for awarding a disputed penalty during the PSG-Newcastle match.
Newcastle’s draw at Paris Saint-Germain (1-1) was marked by an arbitration controversy. Tomasz Kwitklowski, the referee in charge of VAR, was sanctioned by UEFA for having awarded an unjustified penalty to the Parisians in the final minutes of the match.
Kwitklowski is now the subject of a suspension, which will deprive him of the Real Sociedad-RB Salzburg match, scheduled for this Wednesday. And for good reason, the ball first hit the chest of Tino Livramento, the right side of the Magpies. According to the regulations, a penalty should not be awarded in this case. The central referee, Szymon Marciniak, is not exempt from criticism given that he himself viewed the images, but did not see fit to reverse the decision.

With this result, the Premier League club finds itself in third place in Group F, two lengths behind PSG. To qualify for the round of 16, Eddie Howe’s men must win against AC Milan at home on December 13. They will also have to count on a defeat for the Parisians on the pitch at Borussia Dortmund.
