In discussion with Paris Saint-Germain for the breach of his contract, Christophe Galtier will not relaunch in Naples. President Aurelio De Laurentiis finally chose the other French candidate Rudi Garcia. A decision that the Parisian coach does not regret.

Naples surprised Thursday by giving the identity of its new coach. For the succession of Luciano Spalletti, who has decided to take a sabbatical year, the Italian champion has chosen to bet on Rudi Garcia. The French, free since his ousting from Al-Nassr last April, was not however designated as the favorite in the Italian press. But as at Olympique Lyonnais, his performance at the job interview seduced, explains La Gazzetta dello Sport. For starters, president Aurelio De Laurentiis appreciated the ex-Roma manager’s experience in Serie A.

The manager, who dreams of a coronation in the Champions League, is also not insensitive to the career of Rudi Garcia, semi-finalist in the competition with Les Gones. During this Final 8 in 2020, his Olympique Lyonnais eliminated Manchester City and Juventus Turin before falling to Bayern Munich. Rudi Garcia was able to highlight this feat during his interview, as was his preference for the 4-3-3 scheme, the system used by Luciano Spalletti this season. With the former LOSC coach, the Neapolitans will therefore be able to adapt more easily.

Galtier is not unhappy

But his arguments could have proved insufficient to obtain the post. Indeed, RMC confirms that Christophe Galtier was the favorite. But the Parisian coach, still in discussion with his leaders for the breach of his contract, needed additional time that Naples could no longer offer him. Not enough to bring down Christophe Galtier who, in private, admits that it would have been difficult to do better than Luciano Spalletti at Napoli. The native of Marseille did not see himself chained to a new failure after Paris Saint-Germain.
