In the running to win the trophy for best MLS player of the season, Lionel Messi had the spotlight stolen by one of his compatriots.
The best player in MLS is not Lionel Messi. With 60.3% of the votes, Luciano Acosta was crowned MLS MVP for the 2023 season. The Cincinnati attacking midfielder, author of 17 goals and 14 assists this season, is ahead of former Ligue 1 resident Denis Bouanga (14.9%) and his compatriot Thiago Almada (6.4%), as well as Lionel Messi, also in the running.
The skills. The stats. Lucho has it all.

It must be said that since his arrival in MLS last summer, Lionel Messi has only played six small matches with Inter Miami, for 1 goal and 2 assists. Too little to be crowned MVP of the North American league.
