Lacazette, the focus

While Olympique Lyonnais has struggled since the start of the season, a possible departure of Alexandre Lacazette this winter is being discussed. Some validate this possibility.

The contrast is striking. Like last season, Alexandre Lacazette is to date Olympique Lyonnais’ top scorer since the start of the 2023-2024 financial year. Except that the number of goals scored by the Rhone striker has nothing to do with what it was a year earlier. In an OL in distress, Lacazette has so far scored three goals (in nine matches played) after twelve days of the championship. Last year, there were already seven at the same time. While Fabio Grosso has just disowned him by taking him out at half-time of the match lost last weekend against Lille (0-2), the future of the former Arsenal player in Lyon seems to be written in dotted. Not necessarily bad news for some observers.

Former footballer turned consultant for the channel The TeamPierre Bouby discussed the information revealed Monday by Progressabout a possible departure of Alexandre Lacazette this winter. “ The coach is not stupid. If Lacazette starts planting again, he will put him back on the field. The problem is that it doesn’t create anything. I hear the little music ‘Alexandre Lacazette is not served’. He was served, he missed a lot of chances. I don’t want to criticize the player himself, but you have to take the mental dimension of what they are doing. It’s super complicated. And I think releasing contracts (Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso, editor’s note) will allow them to recruit players.

Left in January?

While waiting to know what decisions will be made in terms of squad restructuring during the next transfer window, Olympique Lyonnais continues to wade into the depths of the Ligue 1 ranking. Last in the ranking with only one success in twelve outings, John Textor’s club is five points behind (but one game less) on Toulouse, last non-relegation, and four on the Lorient play-off. It remains to be seen whether Alexandre Lacazette will still be there in January to help his team avoid disaster.
