This Monday evening, Girona welcomed Bilbao in Catalonia with the desire to recover its throne as leader. A meeting which promised to be complicated for the Catalans against the Basques sixth in the standings and who pose problems for several teams on the other side of the Pyrenees. And, even after showing great domination and opening the score, the locals were held by Ernesto Valverde’s team.

However, everything started well for Viktor Tsygankov’s teammates. It was the Ukrainian right midfielder who opened the scoring after a fantastic collective action from Michel Sanchez Munoz’s men (1-0, 55th). An advantage which only lasted 12 minutes before Inaki Williams equalized on a well-executed counter-attack (1-1, 67th). With this draw, Bilbao climbs to fifth place while Girona misses a great opportunity to regain first place from Real Madrid.
