Three days before facing PSG in the Champions League, Newcastle played an excellent match against Chelsea and won 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.
Beaten 2-0 by Bournemouth before the international break, Newcastle largely reassured themselves on Saturday by beating Chelsea with a score of 4-1 at St James’ Park, three days before their Champions League clash against PSG next Tuesday at the Parc des Princes. The Magpies are last with four points in this group, but can still shake things up by obtaining a good result against the Parisians, second in the group with two more points.
The Blues are having a bad season (4 league victories), but Eddie Howe’s men put in a solid performance in their den, scoring in a very different way. Newcastle opened the scoring with a placed attack (with an Alexander Isak found in the open area, 13th) and, after the opposing equalizer (Raheem Sterling on a free kick, 23rd), regained the advantage on the hour mark at the following a set piece (with a header from Jamaal Lascelles, 60th).

Newcastle then increased the score on an opposing error (Joelinton took advantage of a completely missed pass from Thiago Silva, 61st) and on a counter (with a beautiful strike from the untenable Anthony Gordon, 83rd). The club owned by Saudi Arabia is sixth in the PL standings, three points from the top 4 (pending further results), while Chelsea are languishing in the middle of the table (10th).
