Timo Werner had undoubtedly imagined his return to RB Leipzig differently. After selling it for €60 million to Chelsea in 2020, the German club got it back three times cheaper this summer. But he’s not really the same player he was 3 seasons ago. The 27-year-old has had to make do with a few crumbs since his return. It’s quite simple, he only played 370 minutes in all competitions for 2 small goals scored and an assist delivered. That’s not much when you’re the top scorer in the club’s history.

In Marco Rose’s mind, he is still far in the hierarchy behind Loïs Openda and Xavi Simons, who have both shined since their arrivals. The observation does not stop. Faced with this lack of performance, Werner completely lost his place in the German team, he who nevertheless has 27 goals in 54 caps. Faced with this delicate situation, the German press even mentioned a possible departure this winter, which the sporting director of the German club, Rouven Schröder, preferred to temper.

Werner has no intention of going to Real Madrid

“I’m not going to talk about that now. We’re looking at the team as usual and we’ll definitely have some players who might say they have something else on their mind. We are also facing this problem” explained the manager in Bild. We are still far from a formal denial and obviously, that has not stopped the rumors about the attacker. There is even a rumor that has appeared on the side… of Real Madrid, which is having to deal with numerous injuries, including that of Vinicius Junior. We are still talking about a two and a half month shutdown…

But to believe Bild, Timo Werner doesn’t care about Casa Blanca. Despite his current situation, leaving after just six months is out of the question for him. His priority is to fight for a place in the starting XI at Leipzig. A departure is not possible, even at Real Madrid, while other less prestigious clubs have looked into his situation such as Crystal Palace, West Ham and Fulham. He obviously had little taste of the media coverage at Chelsea and certainly does not want to relive that in Spain.
