Inter Miami have released a statement following reports that Lionel Messi’s side will face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in a special match in February.
Miami has refuted suggestions that Messi and Ronaldo could meet again in a clash between Inter Miami and Al-Nassr in 2024. The match was due to take place in February as part of the Riyadh Season Cup, a tournament three teams in which the Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal would also participate.
Messi and Ronaldo remain two of the biggest names in football, even as both stars head towards the end of their phenomenal careers. Any match featuring the duo always attracts great interest, but Miami’s statement has cast doubt on the possibility of seeing the two football legends renew their rivalry. Messi’s Miami are due to return to training ahead of the new MLS season in January and then play pre-season friendlies. The World Cup winner could face his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys in a friendly as part of Miami’s pre-season preparations.
