Cauet, the dirty blow to Zidane

Sébastien Cauet, in the midst of turmoil due to accusations of sexual assault on minors, was a hit during the 2006 World Cup with his parody Zidane is going to score. The TV and radio host ended up recording the single before the Blues final against Italy and this famous headbutt of “Zizou” on Marco Materazzi.

Star of radio and TV in France, Sébastien Cauet is not a big sports fan but is sometimes invited to the Parc des Princes for PSG matches and was one of the people present at the Stade de France during the final of Euro 2016 lost against Portugal. The presenter created quite a buzz (this term was not even popularized at the time) during the 2006 World Cup, accompanying the Blues to the final of the competition.

From May 2006, Cauet, then on Fun Radio, produced a parody of Madan (a title by Salif Keita remixed by Martin Solveig in 2003) quoting the players of Raymond Domenech’s French team, with a catchy chorus serving as the title of the song: Zidane will score there. Vikash Dhorasoo, Sylvain Wiltord, Claude Makelele and Pascal Chimbonda are cited, Jérôme Rothen (“ it wasn’t caught, it didn’t get wet “) and Nicolas Anelka are mocked (” Anelka is going to play it, only on her PSP “).

The refrain is echoed by Blues supporters after qualifying against Spain, Brazil and Portugal. Cauet then decided to record a CD-single and the clip for the song was published in the run-up to the World Cup final against Italy. TF1 broadcasts it on repeat. Zinédine Zidane will score from the penalty spot against the Nazionale, but this final lost on penalties is infamous for the number 10’s headbutt on Marco Materazzi… Headbuttanother parody, will ultimately become the hit of the summer.

Cauet resumed his Zidane will score there twice, singing Chabal will eat them! before the Rugby World Cup in 2007 and Kylian will score there for Euro 2021. This was much less successful for the 51-year-old host, who is currently immersed in a huge scandal (a woman filed two complaints for rape, including one when she was a minor over 15 years, as revealed by the magazine l’Obs this Tuesday).
