New gaping hole in Barça’s finances

FC Barcelona is once again seeking to activate an economic lever, its previous attempts having been unsuccessful.

As a first step, FC Barcelona sold 49.5% of Barca Studios for 200 million euros, purchased by Orpheus Media and Socios. They have received €40 million so far for the sale, but payments were expected to continue. Anticipating that the original investors were unlikely to release the money this summer, they sold 29.5% to Libero and NIPA for €120 million, of which €60 million was due this year and €40 million Euros were not paid to Libero.

There Cadena SER claims that the percentage held by Libero is only 9.8%, but regardless, they have not paid the promised 40 million euros. The outlet adds that the Catalans now assume that Libero will not pay the money owed to him in 2023, which is necessary to register new signings in January.

Therefore, FC Barcelona is looking for a third group of investors to give them the 40 million euros they are owed. Given the desperate nature of this search and the need to obtain this money in a very short time, FC Barcelona finds itself in an unfavorable negotiating position.

President Joan Laporta approved the levers to allow FC Barcelona to invest in the short term and rebuild its team. This allowed them to win the title last season, but the Catalans are now paying the price, with salary cap difficulties making it difficult for the Blaugrana to make a move on the market this year.
