The Italian Paolo Maldini could become the general manager of another major European institution.

Manchester United are reportedly considering reforming the management duo that was behind AC Milan’s revival, made up of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara.

Maldini competes with Mitchell

The flagship club in the North West of England are desperate to find a suitable sporting director. With this in mind, the board has drawn up a list of potential candidates.

According to the Telegraph, Dougie Freedman, sporting director of Crystal Palace, Paul Mitchell, former manager of Monaco, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, former players of AC Milan, Andrea Berta, of Atletico Madrid, and Lee Congerton, of ‘Atalanta, all embody potential leads.

Maldini, because of what he succeeded in Milan before his ouster, is a very interesting suitor. He also has the benefit of being free, having been let go by AC Milan’s American owner Gerry Cardinale at the end of last season. The Saudis from Al-Ittihad courted him for several weeks but he did not give in.

However, despite all his advantages, the ex-Squadra libero is not the favorite to land at Old Trafford. It is Mitchell who would be according to the English press.
