Real Madrid have been warned that the signing of Kylian Mbappé will cause them four potential problems.
Kylian Mbappé continues to be heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu at the end of his contract with PSG, which expires in June 2024, when he will become a free agent.
For now, however, ties are easing, with French and Iberian media increasingly convinced that the player who finished third in this year’s Ballon d’Or will stay at PSG.
What confirms A.S.who notes that Real Madrid is aware that the signing of Mbappé would have a cost which could create many problems in the squad.
First of all, there is the problem of the arrival of the Bondynois who would explode the salary scale at the Bernabeu. It should cost around 35 million euros per year in net salary, which would correspond more to 70 million euros in gross emoluments.
The 24-year-old French international would thus be by far the club’s highest paid player. No other player earns more than €11 million, with David Alaba and Toni Kroos the highest paid at €10.8 million and €10.7 million respectively.
The second problem is that Mbappé would step on Vinicius Junior’s toes, with both players preferring to play on the left wing. Although Kylian could replace Karim Benzema in the number 9 role, it is unlikely he will want to play in that role long term.
There is also fear that the signing of the 2018 world champion will end the club’s chances of signing Erling Haaland from Manchester City – a player who critics say would be a better fit for the Bernabeu side as his profile is lacking . The cost of signing Mbappé, between his salary and bonuses, would prevent this operation from being realistic.
Finally, it would lead to a possible legal battle with PSG after Real Madrid unexpectedly released a statement saying they did not have discussions with Mbappé before January 1.
