Twelve days ago, Luis Diaz’s parents were kidnapped at a gas station in Colombia. The Liverpool player’s mother was quickly released, while his father was still in the hands of his captors. But after long moments of captivity, the Colombian Football Federation announced his release: “the Colombian Football Federation thanks the national government, the national military and police forces, as well as all the institutions and officials who made possible the release of Luis Manuel Diaz, father of our player Luis Diaz”.
After being released, the 26-year-old’s father spoke out and had a thought for his son. “Luis (Diaz) told me to hold on and find the strength to get over what happened. I want to thank God for the second chance he gave me and all the people of Barrancas. Let’s put down our weapons, take a pen and a notebook, let’s work so that there is peace in Colombia”he explained, ensuring that no ransom had been asked of him so that he could return home.
