Thanks in particular to enormous solidarity in the money-time, the Marseillais obtained a precious victory Thursday evening in Athens against AEK (0-2). OM regains the lead of its group in the Europa League.

OM had not won away from the Vélodrome stadium this season. This is no longer the case since Thursday evening and the success obtained with conviction and determination on the pitch of AEK Athens (0-2), on behalf of the 4e day of the Europa League.

This victory puts Gennaro Gattuso’s players back at the top of group B with a one point lead over Brighton and above all four over their evening opponent, already beaten in Marseille a fortnight ago during the first leg match (3- 1).

The final phase of the C3 is getting closer for the Olympians who opened the scoring in Greece with a diving header from Mbemba from a corner (0-1, 25e), before freeing himself in added time thanks to Sarr benefiting from Veretout’s offering (0-2, 90e+3).

Vitinha, twice, came close to worsening the score in favor of OM (62e80e). Deprived of Rongier (injured for several months) and Aubameyang, the Marseillais were also able to count on a formidable Lopez. Sufficiently criticized, rightly so, since the start of the season, the Spanish goalkeeper deserves praise.

The former AS Roma player made five decisive saves, including two huge ones at the start of the second half (51e55e). Lopez held on again at the end of the match in the form of attack and defense (89e90e+1.90e+6).

OM showed great solidarity in this money-time without giving the impression of weakening physically. This last point must particularly satisfy Gennaro Gattuso.
