Who will broadcast Ligue 1 over the period 2024-2029? Two candidates already seem to stand out.

Ligue 1, in its retransmission, is likely to be turned upside down this time again. From next season, and until 2029, Canal+ will potentially no longer be involved, like beIN Sports which in recent years has established itself as a major player in the television broadcasting of the French football elite.

According to L’Equipe, while the Professional Football League (LFP) is now negotiating over-the-counter with the various candidates, two entities stand out from the crowd: Amazon, which saved the day for the L1 during the sinking of Mediapro in 2021 , and the new kid DAZN. A platform with long teeth which has already taken on debt of almost 6 billion euros to satisfy its ambitions in the world of sport.

On the Italian model

At stake, two main prizes initially flanked by a reserve price of 530 (three matches per day, i.e. choices 1, 2 and 4 in co-broadcast) and 270 million euros (the other six matches, plus the choice 4 in co-broadcast and choices 1 and 2 on delay). Two lots which have not found buyers and will certainly be negotiated downward by buyers who are still interested to this day.

The sports daily evokes a possible association between DAZN and Amazon Prime Video, based on the Italian model which has just emerged. DAZN took the lion’s share in Serie A, ensuring the exclusive broadcast of seven out of 10 posters per championship day, plus three co-broadcast with Sky Italia. In France, Amazon could be content with such a supporting role, in its desire to limit its investment as much as possible. The verdict will come next spring at the latest.
