OGC Nice in boss size! At the end of the 11th day of Ligue 1, the Aiglons hosted Stade Rennais on their lawn. And as often since the start of the season, Francesco Farioli’s men won. A success with a score of 2 goals to 0 thanks to a goal from Jérémie Boga in the last minutes of the first act and from Sofiane Diop at the end of the match.

This success for the Azuréens allows them to regain the lead in the Ligue 1 standings with one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain (25 points against 24).

On the other hand, Stade Rennais is struggling to escape its negative spiral in the championship. The Bretons are on a series of 4 consecutive matches without a victory (3 defeats and a draw). The SRFC is in 11th position.

Clinical Nice in the first act

In this first tactical act and overall very balanced, the two teams each had their highlights and managed to worry the opposing goalkeepers. However, it was OGC Nice who found the fault in the very last moments of the first period.

Terem Moffi, positioned on the right wing, reverses the play for Jérémie Boga in the area who adjusts Steve Mandanda with a cool flat right foot (1-0.45). An opening score which gave confidence to Farioli’s men.

Enterprising but inefficient Rennes

Upon returning from the locker room, Bruno Génésio’s players raised the cursor in order to get back into the game. Despite several attacks in the Nice camp and on Marcin Bulka’s cage, the Bretons did not succeed in breaking the Aiglons’ barrier.

Despite a numerical superiority for 10 minutes, following a red card from Youssous Ndayishimiye, author of a violent late tackle on Enzo Le Fée, the Rennais were unable to materialize their actions and take advantage of this advantage.

Sofiane Diop crucifies Rennes and Steve Mandanda

Outnumbered, OGC Nice held back in the face of multiple attacks from Rennes. At the end of the match, when he had just come on, Sofiane Diop launched Evann Guessand in depth who was caught from behind by Warmed Omari just in front of the surface.

The Rennes defender was also expelled from the match. The Nice number 10 converts the free kick obtained a few minutes earlier by Guessand and ensures his team’s victory against SRFC (2-0.87). The goal should nevertheless be attributed to Steve Mandanda who put the ball into his own net.
