Real Madrid made a surprise official announcement about Kylian Mbappé on Saturday, denying having made contact with the PSG striker.
Mbappé has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu for years, but he passed up the opportunity to complete a move in the summer of 2022 by signing a new lease with the Parisians.
The contract ends next summer and with the French international refusing to extend his stay at PSG, it is possible that the 24-year-old striker could join Los Blancos as a free agent before next season.
Madrid’s statement came after an article in A.S. claimed Mbappé, who finished third in the Ballon d’Or, would be offered €35 million per season at the Bernabeu as it would be “impossible” for him to join the club for less than the take-home salary he earns in Paris.
The text reads: “Taking into account the information recently issued and published by various media, in which there is speculation about alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappé and our club, Real Madrid CF would like to affirm that this information is completely false and that no negotiation of this type has not happened with a player who belongs to PSG. »
Is this a bluff on the part of the Spanish club to ease tensions between it and PSG, or a real denial?
According to The Parisianthis press release is nothing more than a legal strategy aimed at preventing Real Madrid from being sanctioned by PSG if discussions have been started between the player and the Blancos.
Although Mbappé will be allowed to speak with foreign clubs before his contract with PSG has completely expired, this window will not open until January 1, so any unapproved discussions with the Ligue 1 residents would be considered illegal.
This would open the door to Real Madrid being punished for contacting the player.
