When Lionel Messi mentioned Paris Saint-Germain in his statements, it was often to highlight his discomfort. But his speech has changed.

Leo Messi changes his mind! Well, some would say, while others accused him of having spit in the Parisian soup. In an interview given to France Football after winning his eighth Ballon d’Or, the Argentinian world champion wants to emphasize the “positive things” of his visit to Paris.

“I had two years where a lot of things happened, some good and some not so good. But I have already mentioned this period several times, it is now in the past and I only remember the positive things: with the team, we won two championships in a row. (…) I made very good friends in Paris and it was by playing there that I managed to become world champion,” affirms Lionel Messi, also probed on the conditions of his departure from Paris Saint-Germain for Inter Miami last summer.

I thought about what was best at that time for my family and me.”he explains.

“The fact that I became world champion and that I achieved all the objectives that I had set for myself during my career allowed me to think beyond the sporting aspect, to also think for the well-being of my entire family, to benefit from another point of view. It was a decision that we made together, quietly. (…) My first idea was always to return home, to be able to play in Barcelona again and to retire there as I had always dreamed of. But it wasn’t possible.”
