But what happens to Dele Alli? Victim of a muscle tear, the English midfielder has not worn the colors of Everton since March 2023. A period of unavailability which now amounts to more than six months and during which he spent six weeks in rehab for substance abuse issues. Far from having regained his former form, the 27-year-old has nevertheless returned to training, but remains away from the group.

If he is on the road to recovery, his case poses a problem for the disastrous finances of the residents of Goodison Park. After leaving the London suburbs for the banks of the Mersey on a free transfer in 2022, a clause negotiated between the two parties at the time stipulates that the Toffees will have to pay no less than €10m if Dele Alli reaches the mark of 20 appearances with his team, he who has only 13 since his arrival. With a view to taking full advantage of his player once he has fully recovered, The Telegraph informs us this Friday that Everton are trying to find a compromise with their former team and preliminary discussions have reportedly been initiated by director of football Kevin Thelwell to renegotiate the initial agreement. To be continued…
