A French sports figure thinks that Erling Haaland still has “a lot of catching up to do” in order to be at the level of Kylian Mbappé.
The 2023 Ballon d’Or rankings were revealed last Monday with the announcement of the winner. Lionel Messi took first place and behind it was Erling Haaland who took the second place, while Kylian Mbappé only finished 3e.
“Haaland will have to do Herculean labors”
Although he shone at the World Cup, the French striker ranked behind the Norwegian giant, who was absent in Qatar. Despite this, there are some who think that the Man City Cyborg remains very far from the PSG star. This is particularly the case of Vincent Moscato, the former rugby player.
🗣💬 Vincent: “Mbappé-Haaland? There will be a match. But it will be the labors of Hercules for Haaland to catch up with Mbappé, who has already won the supreme title with the World Cup. They will pull the wool over their heads and will keep us in suspense as much as Messi and Ronaldo” pic.twitter.com/hhoyIyiBJs

During his radio show on RMC, Moscato indicated that he would need to do Herculean labors to live up to the Bondyn crack. “Haaland will not be Ballon d’Or, because he is not supported by a big country. It’s going to be complicated. From there, it will be very hard to catch up with Mbappé. Maybe by winning the Champions League five times and also the Euro with his country.”
While predicting that Haaland will never be number 1, Moscato still admitted that talent-wise “ there is a match between the two.” “We will also see the number of goals scored. They are at the start of their career, Mbappé is ahead. But they are two great players. They will pull out all the stops and they will keep us in suspense for 10 years as much as Messi and Ronaldo.”
