Testing positive for testosterone on August 20, Paul Pogba risks a four-year suspension. But the Frenchman could see his sentence reduced by half.

Paul Pogba’s sporting career changed just over two months ago, following the Serie A match between Juventus and Udinese, played on August 20. Passed by anti-doping control, the French midfielder was reported positive. A few weeks later, the second opinion requested by “la Pioche” confirmed the positive test. Suspended as a precautionary measure by Juventus, the player is now waiting to be brought before the prosecution. However, a small glimmer of hope exists for Paul Pogba who could see his probable sanction reduced. And not just a little.

It is La Gazzetta dello Sport who brought up the subject. The Italian media recalled that the 2018 world champion currently risks a maximum suspension of four years. In ten days, however, he will be able to present his defense before the prosecution in charge of the case. And according to the Code, if Paul Pogba manages to find the right arguments, and especially if he admits his responsibility, he could “only” get two years instead of the initial four, or half as much. Even if the duration remains long in the event of a twenty-four month suspension, it would allow the former Manchester United player to believe in a return to the field at the highest level.

In two years…

Currently aged thirty, Paul Pogba will then be thirty-two years old in the event of a reduced sentence. If he stays in shape throughout his suspension, he can reasonably hope to return to a good level team. The deadlines are still very far away, but in the middle of all the complicated stages that he has experienced in recent months, Paul Pogba will certainly cling to this little hope.
