Former Belgian footballer Eden Hazard has just explained why he chose to hang up his boots at only 32 years old.

Former Real Madrid and Chelsea player Eden Hazard was happy to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday.

Hazard: “My body could no longer keep up”

He presented the Kopa Trophy to Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham. At the end of this evening, the Belgian icon spoke to the media about the reasons which pushed him to turn his back on his playing career.

“I’m only 32, but I really started early…I left home at 14 and ended up doing everything I wanted. It was the right time: my body could no longer keep up. I had a few injuries at the end and that’s why I made this decision. And I’m also happy to have taken it”, he confided in an interview with Radio Marca.

Hazard is no longer a player, but he still feels a connection with a football and that is why he responded positively to the invitation from France Football: “ Why am I here? Because my children asked me to come. I told them, “Okay, we’re going to go to Paris together to spend a night and have fun.”

“I can do what I want and enjoy my family, my children. Do I still watch football? Of course. My children play football and I watch it with them. For now, I don’t miss playing football. Maybe in a few months, I don’t know”concluded the ex-Lille player.
