The Footpack site looked at the contracts between crampon equipment manufacturers and Ligue 1 footballers. With some surprising lessons…

In an era marked by the omnipotence of marketing and merchandising, the major sports brands are engaged in a fierce battle to collaborate with the major footballers. A trend that is confirmed at all scales. The Footpack site carried out a study to look at the shoes worn by professional footballers playing in Ligue 1.

Unsurprisingly, 3 major brands on the market stand out very clearly: Nice, Puma and Adidas. These 3 equipment manufacturers even monopolize almost the entire French league market since 98.23% of players playing in the elite wear crampons from one of these 3 brands.

Who are the 4 players who do not play for Adidas, Nike or Puma?

It is Adidas which emerges at the top of this honorary ranking with 200 players wearing crampons from the brand with the three stripes on French lawns, or 44.05% of the total. The American form Nike is placed in second position with 132 players represented (28.85%), and Puma completes the podium with 115 athletes (25.33%). So who are the rare footballers who are not affiliated with these 3 market giants?

There are only 4 of them in the French championship. The young Rennais Désiré Doué wears the Tekela v4 Low from New Balance, an equipment manufacturer that is rising after its collaborations with the English Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling. The Rémois on loan from Manchester City Josh Wilson-Esbrand wears the Skechers Razor, a brand promoted by the brilliant Harry Kane. The atypical goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca is an ambassador for the Kipsta brand, as is the Le Havre doorman Mathieu Gorgelin.
