In difficulty with Chelsea in recent weeks, Senegalese international striker Nicolas Jackson has received support from his coach, Mauricio Pochettino.
Arriving from Villarreal this summer, Nicolas Jackson is having a difficult start at Chelsea. Author of 3 goals in 11 matches in all competitions, the Senegalese striker is starting to be disliked by Blues supporters. One of them even insulted him during the home defeat against Brentford (0-2) last Saturday, shouting at him “Wake up and score”. It was enough to see Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, come to the rescue of his 22-year-old player, at a press conference before the reception of Blackburn Rovers, this Wednesday in the League Cup.
Pochettino: “For different reasons, he is suffering”
“For different reasons, he (Nicolas Jackson) is suffering, he suffered an injury. Afterwards, it’s difficult to train and then score goals. Nico needs support. I understand the fans, they have the right to say what they want but it was a really quiet moment and it was out of context. At a time when you are fragile, you need help, you need trust and you need to be believed, this is something that can change your direction.”declared the Argentinian technician, quoted by the daily The Evening Standard. The former PSG coach retains all confidence in his attacker.
“I think Nico, if you look at the game against Liverpool or Dortmund in pre-season, or Luton, was doing what we expected of him. But (…) he was not in his best form that day (against Brentford). But we have to get back the player he was. I believe in him. The only problem is time. I don’t want to give examples, but he arrived at Chelsea in a situation which is not easy for him. We cannot be unfair in the analysis because it was frustrated from the start for different circumstances”concluded Pochettino.
