On July 20, the Women’s World Cup will begin in Australia and New Zealand. For the occasion, FIFA has decided to offer much larger bonuses to the players present. And especially directly in their pockets.

For the ninth edition of the Women’s World Cup, FIFA has decided to increase the bonus it intends to pay to players who participate in the World Cup. Thus, 141.8 million euros will be distributed between the 32 nations participating in this World Cup in Oceania. In 2019, for the tournament in France, this endowment was three times lower and even 10 times lower for the edition in Canada in 2015. Although this amount is still much lower than that of the men’s competition which was 424 million euros. euros in Qatar, the FIFPro union was delighted with this news which is helping women’s football to progress. “They listened to the voice of the players, and we took a step towards greater gender equality at the highest level of our sport” the union said in a statement.

FIFA wants a fairer bonus split

Unlike previous editions, FIFA imposes the same amount on each player, depending on the result of their nation. Thus, for the players in the teams which will be eliminated from the group stage, they will receive 30,000 dollars (28,000 euros, Ed). A figure that increases to 60,000 dollars for the round of 16, 90,000 for the quarter-finalists and 165,000 for the nation that will finish fourth. The third will be able to offer 180,000 dollars to all its players while the finalists will receive 195,000. Finally, the future world champions will all have a check for 270,000 dollars at the end of the tournament. Note that it is not the selections that will receive and distribute these bonuses, but directly the players individually. FIFA is also planning an envelope of 11.5 million dollars for the clubs which will release their international players for this World Cup.
