Former partners at the Girondins de Bordeaux, Bixente Lizarazu and Zinedine Zidane learned of the disappearance of Claude Montero, former club doctor. The first named paid tribute to him.
Before becoming the stars they became by winning the 1998 World Cup with the France team, Bixente Lizarazu, Zinedine Zidane and Christophe Dugarry shared another same adventure, with Bordeaux. With the Girondins, the three men and their teammates at the time marked the memory of Bordeaux supporters during a legendary European epic, punctuated by a 1996 UEFA Cup final, lost to Bayern Munich. To allow them to stay in shape, the players could count on a figure from the medical staff at the time, Doctor Claude Montero. The latter died this week.
And this sad disappearance obviously did not leave Bixente Lizarazu indifferent. The former full-back who played for Bordeaux, Bayern Munich and Olympique Marseille, posted a message on Saturday on his social networks to pay tribute to a man he knew well. “ Doctor Claude Montero (emblematic doctor of the Girondins in the 80s and 90s) left us this week. With his wife, his son, his daughters, his grandchildren and his loved ones, we said goodbye to him yesterday in Pessac. A big THANK YOU Doc, a big THANK YOU Claude, for taking good care of us and particularly of three toddlers with you in this photo. Rest in peace.“

The famous photo mentioned by Bixente Lizarazu is therefore present to illustrate this touching message. We see in particular the former club doctor, accompanied to his right by Lionel Perez, then by three (future) world champions: Christophe Dugarry, Bixente Lizarazu and Zinedine Zidane. Youthful faces, sharp physiques, hair still full. Another era. But memories forever engraved.
