Michael Owen has criticized Harry Kane for choosing to join Bayern Munich rather than wait for Real Madrid.

The England international left his boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur to join the Bavarians for a fee in excess of €100 million. According to reports, Kane was still ‘inclined’ to stay in the Premier League, but he agreed to join Germany at the last minute, having signed a four-year contract.

Owen believes Kane ‘gave in’ to pressure and should have waited to join the Spanish giants.

“I think he has wanted to have the decisions in his hands for three or four years now, he probably regrets not having signed a long-term contract and then he could have better controlled his entire career“, he told DAZN Bet.

“All of a sudden, with a year to go, after doing the hardest part, you’re about to choose Barcelona, Real Madrid or whoever you want, and I almost feel like it’s folded at the last moment”, he added.

Owen was then full of praise for Kane, who has had a phenomenal start to his career in Germany, scoring 11 goals in 12 matches. However, he insisted Kane had bigger reasons to stay in England and decide his career in January as there is nothing special about winning the Bundesliga.

“Kane is an incredible player and it should come as no surprise that he continues to play well, that’s a given. He’s an extraordinary talent.” did he declare.

“I do not agree with his transfer from Spurs to Bayern. He should have stayed one more year with Spurs. If he wanted so much to leave and win trophies, he could have put the world in his hands by completing a Bosman transfer at the end of the season. If Spurs miraculously started playing well and contending for the title, he still could have stayed, but regardless, he would have had his destiny in his hands and gone to the club of his choice, while getting closer of the Premier League goalscoring record and creating the perfect legacy with the club he has been with his whole life.

“Bayern are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world, but I don’t think there is anything really special about going and guaranteeing yourself a Bundesliga trophy. “Bayern will win the championship with or without Kane, so I don’t think that’s a particular reason to leave,” he added.
