Jürgen Klopp obviously did not appreciate that Ibrahima Konaté played almost the entirety of the Blues’ last two matches and made it known.

Liverpool were merciless with Toulouse on Thursday in the Europa League. Despite good resistance from the Violets at the start of the match, the Anfield residents won 5-1. Jürgen Klopp had however decided to rotate since several executives were on the bench like Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson.

Ibrahima Konaté was in the stands. A choice which was explained by the German technician who took the opportunity to slip a well-felt tackle on Didier Deschamps. “He’s not going to play tonight, he’s not even in the group. I absolutely love everything about Ibou, but the problem is that he has had several injuries. Monsieur Deschamps made him play 90 and 87 minutes in the last two matches, so we gave him a little rest”confided the Liverpool coach to the microphone of RMC Sport.

Faced with numerous injuries in central defense – Upamecano, Saliba, Todibo… -, Didier Deschamps in fact aligned the former Sochalien against the Netherlands then against Scotland, only bringing him off in the final minutes of the encounter. Enough to provoke the anger of Jürgen Klopp. “He could have played tonight, but he also has to play Sunday. Mr. Deschamps, this is how we rest the players. Not three minutes…”, he added to the Blues coach.

And the Reds coach wants to be all the more careful with the Paris native since the latter has already missed two matches at the end of the summer. He had already been preserved before the international break by only coming on at the end of the match against Brighton.
