In just a few months, Saudi Arabia has become a major player in football. Whether through its championship and the arrival of numerous football stars (Neymar, Benzema, CR7, Sadio Mané, N’Golo Kanté) or in the takeover of English clubs, Saudi Arabia is everywhere. In Spain or France in particular, this is not yet the case.
However, The Athletic has just revealed surprising information. Real Madrid will welcome a Saudi sponsor. If the Merengue club had already signed a sponsorship agreement with Saudi Telecom, it had expired. This time, it is a Saudi regional bank which will join the pool of official sponsors of Real. But there is no question of seeing it on jerseys, on training outfits or in the stadium. This new sponsor, which is not considered major, demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s interest in La Liga and the emblematic Spanish club. Note that Real Madrid indicated to the English media that this new Saudi partnership is not linked to the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) – the country’s sovereign fund.
