Osasuna fans could be in trouble for the second time this season because of the songs they sang.
The Rojillos secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Granada on Friday night, but there were tensions before the match. Granada’s Jewish and Israeli striker Shon Weissman came under scrutiny this week for his comments on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
After the abuses perpetrated by Hamas, Weissman reportedly supported the dropping of 500 tons of bombs on Palestine. The Granada club spoke with him regarding the incident and the striker did not travel to Pamplona with his team on Friday evening.
Nevertheless, Osasuna fans have decided to protest en masse, bringing with them a number of Palestinian flags, but the club’s finances will suffer. According to Cadena Cope, chants of “Weissman, die” have been heard and fines have already been imposed by the disciplinary committee.
So far, there has been no response or suggestion that Weissman was suspended or fined for his comments, but legal complaints have been filed. On Friday, Weissman did not travel with his teammates as authorities indicated his safety was at risk. This case also comes after Osasuna received complaints over the same chant aimed at Mason Greenwood at the Coliseum against Getafe.
