Benjamin Pavard’s performance on Tuesday against Scotland amazed his teammates.

Benjamin Pavard hit hard on Tuesday for his big return to Lille, seven years after his departure from his training club. Aligned in the center alongside Ibrahima Konaté, the Inter Milan player first delivered a solid defensive performance, showing himself to be intractable. But if this friendly match against Scotland will be remembered, it is because of the improbable double scored by the native of Maubeuge.

After cutting a corner taken by Antoine Griezmann at the near post, Benjamin Pavard did it again about ten minutes later by taking a service from Kylian Mbappé with a diving header. Two goals which allowed the French world champion to enter the annals of the Blues. The Northerner is in fact the first French defender to score a double since Mamadou Sakho during the play-off match against Ukraine in the fall of 2013. Better still, he is the first French player to score two headed goals since Zinedine Zidane and his double against Brazil in the 1998 final.

Benjamin Pavard’s performance did not go unnoticed. This is evidenced by the reactions of his teammates. “I was shocked, he was in surface fox mode! I’m very happy for him. Plus, it’s the first time, I think, that he finished with the captain’s armband.” thus launched Eduardo Camavinga. And Olivier Giroud, who knows the subject well, was just as complimentary. “ Hats off to him. A real attacker, confided the Milanese. He was there waiting in the right place at the right time, I’m super happy for him. First appearance in the center and he even ends up with the armband, it’s great for him and for the team. »
