Argentine striker Julian Alvarez has indicated he was initially not interested in a move to Manchester City.
Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez admits he could very well have played for Real Madrid today.
Real were close to signing Alvarez
Alvarez had a trial with the Spanish giants aged 11, but red tape prevented the Argentine from signing for the Whites.
He remembers today, not without a certain bitterness: “I played for the minors. I was 11 years old and it took years for Real Madrid to sign me. To sign directly, my whole family had to move, so I decided to return to Cordoba. »
Real recruiter Piero Foglia also remembered this episode: “He was not licensed by the AFA (Argentinian Football Federation) and I dared to recommend him to a sports director at Real Madrid because of a contact I had. Julián was up to the task. He participated in a tournament and became champion… We had to wait until 16 years old. If we had applied the same rules as when Messi arrived at Barcelona, Julián Álvarez would have been a Real Madrid footballer. »
Destiny would have it otherwise and Alvarez ended up joining Manchester City in Europe. Previously, he studied at Argentina’s flagship club, River Plate. The Sky Blues are probably congratulating themselves on having beaten the competition and got their hands on this brilliant Argentine striker.
