Fabio Capello shared several anecdotes from his time at Real Madrid, from 2006 to 2007.
Present on the occasion of the inauguration of the 2023-2024 academic year of the University Institute of Linguistic Mediators (Limec), the former Real Madrid coach, Fabio Capello, shared some anecdotes concerning healthy living of some of the players he coached. Among them, we find the Italian striker Antonio Cassano, and the Brazilian Ronaldo.
“In February 2007, I decided to fire Ronaldo, he was someone who liked to party and who took the group to outings, he confided. One day Van Nistelrooy came and said to me: ‘Sir, it smells of alcohol in the locker room.’ And it was true. Ronaldo weighed 94 kg that year (2006-2007). In South Korea, during the 2002 World Cup, he weighed only 82 kg. I told him to lose weight…he reached 92.5 kg”Capello said.
The Italian technician went behind the scenes of the transfer ofEl Fenomeno at AC Milan in January 2007. “Berlusconi (president of AC Milan, editor’s note) called me one day to ask me for advice on a possible purchase of Ronaldo. I advised him not to do it, telling him that he was a party animal and that he only thought about being surrounded by women. He said to me: ‘Okay, thank you Fabio.’ The next day, Ronaldo signed for Milan »confided the 77-year-old man.
