Back in the French team after more than a year of absence, Jonathan Clauss grabbed the pole held out by Didier Deschamps. Starting in the Blues’ victory against the Netherlands on Friday (1-2), the Marseille full-back made a very clean copy, punctuated by his first assist in the selection. Asked about him this Sunday in Téléfootthe French coach was particularly complimentary.
“In line with what he does with his club, he has this technical ability not to be bothered with the ball and to project himself into the offensive phase, recalled Didier Deschamps, before continuing. It’s something interesting, we don’t neglect the defensive aspect even if we haven’t had a lot of difficulty in that aspect. It will also depend on the opponent. He was with us before the World Cup but regularly played a supporting role at the club. There he is more of a full-back, he knows his subject well with a different profile from those who have played here until now.»
