The president of OM rebuffed the Argentine coach, who wanted to return to the Marseille club this summer.

Barely a year after leaving of his own accord, Jorge Sampaoli hoped to make his comeback in Marseille. Having learned that the coaching position was vacant following Marcelino’s resignation, he presented his candidacy. However, this was without result.

Sampaoli wanted to come back

It was Eric Di Méco, the club’s former player, who revealed this information on Wednesday evening during the Moscato Show. “He went out of his way to come back,” he said of the former Albiceleste coach.

Sampaoli therefore hoped to reconnect the thread of his history with OM. It didn’t come to fruition and it’s Longoria’s fault. The Olympian president opposed his reunion. There is no doubt that he still had in his throat the way in which the Argentinian technician had left the Marseille city in the summer of 2022 because of a transfer window considered too risky.

Sampaoli won nothing at OM during his 18-month mandate. Nevertheless, to his credit, there is this runner-up place assured at the end of the 2021/2022 campaign. Over the last ten years, and apart from the unfinished campaign due to Covid, no other coach has done so well with the Olympians.
