Through a press release, Olympique de Marseille confirmed the departure of its football director, Javier Ribalta.

As had been expected for a few days, Javier Ribalta is no longer part of the Marseille management. He had taken a step back since the famous meeting with the supporters and his departure has just been recorded.

Ribalta only stayed one year

In a note published this Wednesday evening, OM indicated that “chaired by Pablo Longoria and composed to date of four members, the Executive Board will continue its mission of in-depth transformation of the club without the contribution of Javier Ribalta whom Olympique de Marseille would particularly like to thank for his involvement and professionalism throughout. throughout his Olympian adventure.

Ribalta had been in office since July 2022. Despite his closeness to the Olympian president, he did not always agree with the decisions taken. He was particularly opposed to the arrival of Marcelino as coach. And the events which took place at the start of the season as well as the unclassy exit of the Spanish coach rather proved him right.

To ensure Ribalta’s continuation in the position he held, the Marseille club is preparing to call on former club player Mehdi Benatia. The Moroccan’s commitment would be on very good track.

Longoria then wanted to personally reassure the supporters about the club’s ambitions and the desire to continue the work that has been started in recent months: “The numerous discussions that we have had over the last few weeks have made it possible to begin a long process of reflection and projection which has resulted, among other things, in an evolution of our sporting and administrative organization in the interest of the club and its parties. stakeholders. Strengthened by this development, the unfailing support and involvement of our shareholder, Frank McCourt, we will continue with determination and serenity our work of analysis, consultation, transformation and consolidation of the club at the highest level to be at the height of the history and ambitions of Olympique de Marseille.”
