Spanish prosecutors are continuing their investigation into Enriquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA).
One of the areas being explored is Negreira’s alleged relationship with FC Barcelona, with the case infamously known as “El Caso Negreira” (the Negreira case).

During court proceedings, Negreira’s lawyer said the 78-year-old suffered from a cognitive impairment that prevented him from facing criminal proceedings. The Spanish authorities will therefore subject him to medical examinations to determine if this is the case.
According to MD, this happened on Tuesday morning. Negreira arrived at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Catalonia around 9:30 a.m. with his wife and his lawyer in order to certify whether he suffers from symptoms of dementia. The report states that at one point Negreira tripped and fell to the ground, and had to be helped by his companions.
FC Barcelona has always maintained that it has done nothing wrong in its relationship with Negreira. However, Catalan leaders have recently been accused of corruption by Spanish prosecutors.
