Victorious against Manchester City last Sunday (1-0), Arsenal took an option with a view to the title race. An important member of this momentous success, William Saliba produced a stratospheric performance by rendering Erling Haaland harmless. In England, the media across the Channel were rave about the 22-year-old French defender. Adored by supporters, former Gunners players greatly appreciate the performances of the player trained at ASSE.

Asked about his case, David O’Leary, Irish central defender and club legend with whom he appeared 722 times between 1975 and 1993, praised him in an interview with Telegraph : “He is fast, calm, reads the game well. He is good in the air and he is strong. It’s a Rolls-Royce. I think we have a player who can be very, very special. There is a good duo with Gabriel but, for me, it was the Rolls-Royce that we missed at the most important moment of last year. He can do our best if he continues as he is. Arsenal have generally always had great defenses – look at the likes of Tony Adams and Sol Campbell, great players, and Saliba will be for his era.»
