FC Barcelona is facing new problems off the field, with the opening of an investigation into irregularities in the payment of agents.

The La Liga champions continue to find themselves at the center of a storm over payments made to Jose Mara Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spanish football’s arbitration committee.

This affair drags on, Barça being accused of corruption.

The Catalan club has always proclaimed its innocence and hopes to see its name cleared, but another saga has just opened.

According to The Confidential, the Catalans are under investigation by the Spanish tax agency.

Barca have reportedly made payments to representatives of players on their squad, which could be seen as a way to increase salaries while avoiding associated taxes.

The payments in question were allegedly made between 2015 and 2018.

Josep Maria Bartomeu was serving as president of the club at the time and it appears he has some accountability.

Tax evasion in Spain is a serious offense that can result in heavy fines or prison sentences.
